April is National Heartworm Awareness Month. Heartworms are transmitted by mosquitoes Adult heartworms can cause lasting damage to the heart and lungs which can be fatal. In our climate, it never gets quite cold enough to kill mosquitoes. Heartworm prevention, given monthly all year long, is recommended to keep your pet safe from this costly, deadly disease.
